Freshmen Orientation Information

Post

Hello!

We are very excited that your child will be attending John F. Kennedy High School and we look forward to meeting your student at orientation days. This year, we have two separate orientation days with different purposes that all freshmen would benefit from attending both.

Link Crew Orientation (9TH GRADE STUDENTS ONLY):

The Link Crew freshman orientation and transition program is designed to both welcome and support freshmen by assigning them a Junior or Senior Link Leader as a mentor during this first year. This Link Leader is a responsible older student who was carefully chosen from a large pool of applicants and has met the qualifications of being a good role model and a positive leader on our campus.

August 21st from 2pm- 6pm: 9th grade students whose last names are A – L

August 22nd from 2pm- 6pm:  9th grade students whose last names are M – Z

Freshmen Orientation (Parents and Students):

This is where students and parents can purchase PE clothes and pick up class schedules.  Orientation packets will be available at jfk.scusd.edu before orientation.

August 21st from 6:00pm – 7:30pm- 9th grade students whose last names are A – L

August 22nd from 6:00pm – 7:30pm- 9th grade students whose last names are M – Z

The following is some Link Crew Orientation information to let you know what you and your student can expect.

1)      Invitation is included with this letter.

2)     A day or two before orientation your child will also receive a phone call from his or her Link Crew Leader personally inviting your student to orientation day and giving them details of where to be and what time;

3)    Don’t bring backpacks, purses or other like items as the day is quite active for Link Crew Orientation;

4)    Because the day is active, please make sure that your child wears comfortable
clothing and shoes that does not restrict movement.

5)  Snacks will not be provided, so eat a big lunch before you come.  Drinking fountains are located around campus, otherwise bring water.

We look forward to meeting you and your child on orientation day!

Where Do I Find Scholarships?

Post

Start close to home and in your community:

  • Ask if your parent(s)/guardian(s) employer offers scholarships for high school students,
  • Ask if your bank/credit union offers a scholarship,
  • Research if your church, places you volunteer or community based organizations near you offer scholarships.
