This course places an emphasis on writings by Cicero, Caesar,
Pompey, Eutropius, Augustus, Pliny and other historically
significant authors. The whole of Latin grammar is completed in
the first few weeks and emphasis is given to the changing
historiography about the fall of the Republic. Students explore a
greater understanding of literary style, use of rhetoric, and
other devices through Catullus’ and Ovid’s poems, Plautus’ plays,
and Caesar’s commentaries.
