Grade Level: 9-12
Grade Level Restrictions: None
Prerequisites: 3rd Level Latin with “B” or better / “C” with teacher recommendation
(Satisfies the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement)
This course is designed to mirror the AP course in terms of Caesar’s writings, while turning also to Plautus, Catullus, and Ovid for exercise in Latin poetry and play-writing. In the second half of the course, emphasis is placed on Livy, with further exploration of Horatius, Cicero, and other significant neo-Latin writers. Greater emphasis is given to how legend interacts with historical record, how the author’s life may have influenced his writings and the political implications of such writings.
